The Department of Materials Science and Non-Ferrous Metals Engineering conducts research in the field of knowledge about material science and non-ferrous metals engineering. Research goals focus on the analysis of the structure and mechanical properties of non-ferrous metal alloys. The Department carries out research with particular focus on the technology of manufacturing metallic, coatings, powder and composite materials.

The Department of Materials Science and Non-Ferrous Metals Engineering conducts research work and development works in the field of:

  • materials researches and development, which focus on the relationship between the structure of materials and their properties in the context of microstructure optimization, property control, design and manufacture of new materials. To describe the structure of materials, advanced technique of observation methods are applied, such as light microscopy, scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy,
  • materials science, cognitive research works during application of new composite, coating and powder materials as well as metallic nanomaterials for the needs of non-ferrous metals industry,
  • research related to phase transition, heat and thermo-mechanical treatment of non-ferrous metal alloys,
  • synthesis of materials by powder metallurgy techniques in the protective atmosphere of argon or hydrogen,
  • production of zinc, copper and aluminium single crystals using the Bridgman method,
  • modelling of mechanical properties and structure during metal forming processes using computer aided systems,
  • providing services for the needs of economic and individual entities, the principals in the scope of preparing engineering expertise based on material tests concerning cases of emergency damage, arising in the conditions of exploitation of finished products or material defects created at the stage of the technological process.
